Q.) The monthly salaries of A and B together amount to 40,000. A spends 85% of his salary and B, 95% of his salary. If now their savings are the same, then the salary of A is

(a) 10,000

(b) 12,000

(c) 16,000

(d) 18,000

Solution :

Let the salary of A be X.

salary of B be Y.

X + Y = 40000 ——(I)

A spends 85% of his salary. Saving of A = 0.15X

B spends 95% of his salary. Saving of B = 0.05Y

Now , the savings of A and B are same.

0.15X = 0.05Y

=> 15X = 5Y

=>3X = Y ——- (II)

Putting the value of Y in (I) ,

X + 3X = 40000

4X = 40000

X = 10000

Hence , Salary of A = 10000 . Hence , Option(a)
